CLAUS' SUCCESS STORY... (NOW KNOWN AS JAKE)

More about Clause/Jake...  Claus has a new name... Jake... and a new home with his special friend, Kelly.  His trainer (Mitch Doyle) at Great Plains Assistance Dogs Foundation says he is doing very well in his new placement.  As Kaye John of Prairie Paws Rescue says, "This is a great success story!"

Welcome, Friends!  We at Prairie Paws Rescue want to thank you for dropping by our site to take a look at the lovable animals that we have for adoption.  We are dedicated to rescuing pets in bad situations.  Most of the animals you see here have been saved from cruel or neglectful situations... and often from death.  Thanks to many kind-hearted foster parents, they are being well cared for until you can give them a special place in your home and heart.  If you see one of the fur-kids on our site that you would like to meet, please give us a call, and we'll set up an appointment for a visit.

A Big THANK YOU to Girl Scout Troup #98!!

These girls made up a donation box for Prairie Paws Rescue. The donation box is located at the Jamestown TSC store during Prairie Paws events. There is a wish list of items needed to help the foster animals in the care of Prairie Paws.

PAWS IN THE PARK...

DOG WALK-A-THON - 2007

Prairie Paws Rescue wants to thank everyone who came to our Dog Walk-A-Thon on Sunday.  You are simply GRRRRReat!!

Thanks to so many participants, our first Paws in the Park Dog Walk-A-Thon was a great success!   Dogs from all over the county arrived with their best friends in tow... men, women, children, babies... all happy to have a chance to meet other dogs and dog-lovers.  Vibrant dog-talk flowed continuously... stories about special dog-friends, facts about health care, good grooming tips, effective doggy diets (and human diets, too!), characteristics of a good vet, traveling tips... People-education took place on a grand scale while their furry friends looked on and enjoyed the show and the wonderful companionship of like-souls.  It was a SPECTACULAR day!

Update:  The second annual "Paws in the Park" is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2008, from 1-4pm at McElroy Park.  Take a look at the flyer!  Food venders, dog walk with two trails, nail clips, demonstrations from Stacey Collins with agility dog Rilee, Great Plains Guide dogs of Jud, Jamestown Police Department new K-9 dog and many dog owners and pet lovers attending. Registration is $10 per dog or a discount for multiple dogs. Each registrant will receive a goodie bag.  For more information contact Kaye (701) 320-4553.

Foster Homes Needed

As many of  you know, Prairie Paws Rescue has no facilities for housing pets.  We depend upon foster homes to take in pets until permanent homes are found. Fostering an animal can be as short as overnight or as long as several months.  The animals are placed in foster homes where nurturing begins, and during that time their medical process is completed before being adopted.  If you are interested in becoming a foster caretaker to a pet, please contact us.

OUR MEET & GREET IN AUGUST WAS A GRRReat SUCCESS!

Lots of people and furry friends turned out for the August Meet & Greet at TSC (Tractor Supply Company).  We want to thank all the students from Jamestown College who came to walk our pups.  Also, it was fun visiting with past adoptive families and fur-pals.  A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped with our Meet & Greet, and to everyone who came out to share in our day!

KNICKERS' SPECIAL STORY...

TO BEGIN WITH...

THANKS TO PRAIRIE PAWS, I'M SO MUCH BETTER!

Hi, My name is Knickers, I have been told I already have two strikes against me, they are: #1....I am Black and #2....I am a lab mix pup and I guess there are lots of us out there. My canine mother had 9 of us and I got real sick to where I couldn't walk so my humans contacted the rescue group for help. They were all full an no where for me to go. I don't remember much of that as I just didn't feel good. I am told that one of the volunteers with group felt bad for me and said she would take me and see if she could help me. So a nice man picked me up and brought me to her. I remember she was holding me and petting me and she would give me warm milk every couple of hours trying to make me strong. You see I was just a baby my mouth hurt. Over the next few days everything hurt. My face swelled and I had big draining sores all over my face, I couldn't see and I had lumps all all the inside of my body, I remember hearing the Dr. and this lady talking about if it would be better to put my to sleep so I wouldn't suffer and it took everything I had but I stood up and took a few steps. They talked about how the medication I needed was very expensive and it is a long treatment, then I gave her a kiss on the hand. Then I remember this big ouch as I got a shot of stuff to make me feel better, antibiotics or something they said. This girl scooped me up gave me lots of kisses she told the doctor that we would be back next week to see how things are. The next days I did everything I could to show them I would try my best to get better, then my side hurt and back to the vet we went. One of my lumps burst open and drained and I had to have stitches but I felt better. I was looking into the mirror and I saw all my hair was gone on my face, I looked pretty bad but this girl didn't seem to care she kept petting me and loving me it didn't seem to matter. Every day she would give me warm milk to help the medicine go down. I had vitamins to take, pills to take and this icky sticky syrup stuff. At my check ups they would say, no worse we'll keep trying. Today I found out that my new mom, this nice girl who's been taking care of me said the rescue group she helps with now had room and they would be helping to place me in a permanent home. So today I grabbed my mom's feet and chewed her shoe, and jumped on the other dogs and we played and played. Thank you all who gave me a chance, I wont let you down and I promise I will take my medicine as they say I will have to be on it for 90 days. Love Knickers
