More about:  BENJI and  SWEETIE ...

A Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction was held Friday, February 15 in Jamestown to raise funds for medical expenses for Benji, Sweetie and the other pets in our care. The tables were decorated with heart-shaped pictures of past and current foster pets and Hershey Kiss thank you party favors and centerpieces. Throughout the evening, pictures of our foster pets were projected on the banquet room wall. T J's Catering prepared a delicious roast beef dinner. The dinner was a sell-out with 100 tickets sold. Volunteers from Students of Service from Jamestown College and Key Club members from Jamestown Public Schools assisted at the event. Cheryl McIntyre's singers provided entertainment and Jim Nyland served as M.C. for the night. Over 56 items were available in the silent auction and there were several raffle items. Tremendous support for the event was provided by the businesses and individuals who donated items and by the individuals who purchased dinner tickets and participated in the auctions and raffles. Over $2,000 was raised for our pets!

Thank you from Benji, Sweetie and the other PPR pets who will benefit from your generous donations!  More Pictures Coming Soon...

Robert won the State Wrestling title for Jamestown, and we named one our cats after him. He was kind enough to come to the Meet and Greet and be photographed with his namesake.

Lucas Krueger and Krueger the cat met at the Movie Gallery Meet and Greet. Lucas thought it was pretty cool to have a cat named after him.  Lucas also won the State Wrestling title in his division.

News Alert!

We now have homes for many of the 24 dogs from a puppy mill who came to ND for a new chance at a good life.  Breeds like westies, affenpinschers, terriers, schnauzers, cavaliers, toy fox terriers,  jack russels, shih tzu's, a young golden retriever and more. Ages of these dogs range from 9 weeks to 10 years young. Check out the stories on each pet page at Petfinder.

3/3/08  Prairie Paws has assisted in two huge rescues this week.

We got some dogs via a Devils Lake city law that people in trailer parks can only have one dog. This lady had 20+.  We got 4 of them and will put pictures on Petfinder when they are healthy and groomed. (Angel, one of the dogs, is already posted).

Also our group went to Bismarck today to assist with 72 chihuahuas in a home where law enforcement took action as the breeder was not cooperating with requirements, health issues, etc. We're not sure how many we are bringing back, but they will be quarantined until we know their status.

3/3/08 See the article in the Bismarck Tribune about our rescue.

WELCOME!

Welcome, Friends!  We at Prairie Paws Rescue want to thank you for dropping by our site to take a look at the lovable animals that we have for adoption.  We are dedicated to rescuing pets in bad situations.  Most of the animals you see here have been saved from cruel or neglectful situations... and often from death.  Thanks to many kind-hearted foster parents, they are being well cared for until you can give them a special place in your home and heart.  If you see one of the fur-kids on our site that you would like to meet, please give us a call, and we'll set up an appointment for a visit.

A Big THANK YOU to Girl Scout Troup #98!!

These girls made up a donation box for Prairie Paws Rescue. The donation box is located at the Jamestown TSC store during Prairie Paws events. There is a wish list of items needed to help the foster animals in the care of Prairie Paws.

Shilo (with adopted parents) and Scooby

PAWS IN THE PARK...

DOG WALK-A-THON

Prairie Paws Rescue wants to thank everyone who came to our Dog Walk-A-Thon on Sunday.  You are simply GRRRRReat!!

Thanks to so many participants, our first Paws in the Park Dog Walk-A-Thon was a great success!   Dogs from all over the county arrived with their best friends in tow... men, women, children, babies... all happy to have a chance to meet other dogs and dog-lovers.  Vibrant dog-talk flowed continuously... stories about special dog-friends, facts about health care, good grooming tips, effective doggy diets (and human diets, too!), characteristics of a good vet, traveling tips... People-education took place on a grand scale while their furry friends looked on and enjoyed the show and the wonderful companionship of like-souls.  It was a SPECTACULAR day!

Thanks again to everyone who participated, and... look forward to another Paws in the Park Dog Walk-A-Thon next year!

News & Happy Tails...

Cogswell Rescue

Shasta is one of many Cogswell rescue dogs who has already been adopted.  Many thanks to all who have helped with their rescue, fostering and adoption!!

Beginning:  Authorities in Sargent County in southeastern North Dakota with the help of Prairie Paws Rescue and Central Dakota Humane society of Mandan rescued 23 dogs that were found starving to death. The dogs appeared to be to be severely malnourished, and  deputies suspect the dogs had gone for weeks without being fed.  More...

Ending:  All the dogs have been given a clean bill of health, have had all the medical work done and have been adopted to good homes and ready for a new life.  Again, many thanks to everyone who has helped with this!  Click here for more "Happy Tails."

The contest ran from September 22nd through October 19th, 2008.  There were lots of great entries, but only one CANDID CANINE winner could be chosen.  This year's winner is Bach and his owner is Gaylen of Jamestown.

As grand prize winner, Bach will receive an 11x14 portrait from King Photography of Jamestown, a day spa at Waggin' Tails Hotel and Daycare, a pet bed from TSC and a bag of food from Prairie Paws. Waiting for Owners as River Rises...

3/27/09 - PLEASE HELP with RESCUE of PETS from FLOODED AREAS

(As always, thanks for your wonderful support!)

Prairie Paws Rescue is setting up a temporary animal shelter in Jamestown for animals displaced during the Fargo/Moorhead and Bismarck flooding.  We contacted RM Stoudt's, and they have been generous enough to donate part of the Jamestown Auto Center building to be used.

3/30/09  PRAIRIE PAWS RESCUE SUPPORTERS ARE HARD AT WORK SETTING UP TEMPORARY ANIMAL SHELTER. (Details & Pictures)

Click here for more details and pictures about the emergency animal shelter...

It has everything we need to temporarily house animals until they can be reunited with their owners.  We will be looking for volunteers to help prepare the building for the animals, provide animal care once the animals are here, and donations for the rescued animals. Everything from crates, food bowls, leashes, blankets, towels, litter boxes, litter, storage containers, garbage bags, bleach for cleaning, pet food and items to make the animals more comfortable during their separation from their owners.  Cash donations would also help for medical supplies for animals needing vet care, etc.

Two Prairie Paws Rescue volunteers Rebeka Johnson and Kaye John have been through the Humane Society of the United States National Disaster Animal Response Training (NDART) and also volunteered with the flood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Donations can be dropped off at Jamestown TSC, Country Acres Vet Clininc, Big Dog Country Radio, Jamestown Auto Center building or donation mailed to Prairie Paws Rescue -  PO Box 1114 - Jamestown, ND 58402.

March 31, 2009:  A big THANKS to Noah's Wish who helped us set up the emergency shelter and get us the supplies needed (cages, medical supplies & more)!  Prairie Paws Rescue is now ready for animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.). We appreciate the community's generous outreach to help the animals who could be displaced by this disaster.

April 27, 2009:  The flood shelter is running well.  Thank you, Brandy and Becky, for your many hours of hard work and dedication to keep the doors open and running smoothly.

May 2, 2009:   The Emergency Flood Shelter  is still operating and still needs volunteers to help 8:30am-10:00am  and 5:30-7:00pm  with walking dogs, cleaning, feeding and watering pets.  We so much appreciate your help!

May 8, 2009:  Please come and take a look at the animals that have been stranded by the floods.  Some of them are available for adoption.

May 15, 2009:  The Jamestown Emergency "Pet" Flood Shelter at the former Jamestown Auto Center Building is now closed.  Thank you to the community and volunteers that supported our efforts with their generous donations of time and supplies, especially RM STOUDT Dealership for the donation of the building. Many pets who were there seeking shelter from the flood have returned home with their families or have found new homes through Prairie Paws Rescue.  If the need arises, Prairie Paws Rescue will re-open the Emergency "Pet" Flood Shelter based on the need and the rising waters.

RESCUE OF PETS FROM FLOODED AREAS

3/30/09  PRAIRIE PAWS RESCUE SUPPORTERS ARE HARD AT WORK SETTING UP EMERGENCY ANIMAL SHELTER IN JAMESTOWN.

A great turn out of volunteers helps set up the emergency animal shelter in Jamestown.  An outpouring of volunteers came to clean floors, bring supplies for animals and the volunteers in order to get the haven set up.  Volunteers from Noah's Wish Animal Disaster Team was invited to Jamestown to help Prairie Paws Rescue set up the temporary shelter.  Our location is an outreach to any of the smaller communities in the surrounding areas who may need out help due to flooding.  The larger cities like Fargo/Moorhead and Bismarck have their locations under control.  We are more concerned about the smaller communities who have no resources to take their animals in case of a disaster.  Noah's Wish was impressed with the facility at Jamestown Auto center that was donated by RM Stoudt and liked the idea that we were preparing the area ahead of time should the flooding hit our area instead of waiting until the disaster hit.
